Blood Drive/ Lego

During these last few weeks i have been working on a couple of videos. One of these includes a film about a student named Jason who was donating blood at the recent ONW blood drive. The other is about Liz building a with legos for the first time ever.
The Blood Drive: With the Blood Drive being just around the corner we decided that were going to make a video supporting the blood drive. Our task was to find a subject and film their journey throughout the blood drive. About a day before filming I made a list of questions to ask the subject. When I arrived I found Jason and he agreed to allow me to interview him. While I was filming time was a big problem. I only had a limited amount of time to get all the shots I needed, but Jason was getting bis blood drawn as I needed to start wrapping up. I feel like I was still able to get enough shots to tell a good story though. During editing I had to organize all my shots in a sequence that made sense. I wish I could have gotten more shots while still asking the questions I did and organize them in the same way.
Lego: In this video I recorded Liz building with legos for her first time. I think i was able to tell a good story with the footage I got. Only problems I had with this video was just getting a large variety of shots. During editing this i learned many new techniques, mostly I learned how to properly adda voice over and how to use J and L edits. J and L edits are points in the video where I cut to another shot while the noise from the previous clip is still running. I personally like this video better than my blood drive video just because I got more shots and it has a better story.

"PINS" animation

This project was my quarter 1 final, its a 2d animation made in animated in aftereffects. I decided to make a story about an innocent voodoo doll being used to harm the man in the background.

Pre-Production:
When I am making a story, the plot is usually more serious and that tends to bleed into my art style. But around the time I was in preproduction of this animation I was attempting to make more cute characters, and this was the result of that attempt. The inspiration for the body type of the doll was mainly from the Sackboy from the game series "Little Big Planet".
Production:
I drew all the characters limbs separately on a piece of paper and scanned them into Photoshop. I also made the background entirely in Photoshop. And after set everything up I moved it all into Aftereffects.

My Thoughts:
In the production of this I learned how to animate the scale of a certain layer. I also learned how to stylize the art to express a certain attitude. If I could change something it would probably be adding some ambient music and just managing my time better. things I would keep the same include the way the characters move(doll being more lose than human) and the process I used in preproduction. Things that I will use in later work will most likely be my preproduction process and stylizing the character instead of trying to make them super realistic.

Overall I think that this animation was successful even though I still have much to learn.

Headphones music video

The goal of this project was to make a music video. My group and I chose to make a video for the song "Headphones" by Britt Nicole. While we were storyboarding we had the idea to have two separate story lines and have them come together at the end. Then we started to film the video, the biggest problem we had was filming the outside shots. During the week we were filming it was either cloudy or raining when in the previous shots it was sunny. And finally after we finished filming we began editing, the difficult part of this was picking which parts of the song to have in the video and matching them up with the correct shots.
During the process of editing i learned how to adjust the speed of the shot and how to adjust the opacity of a select shot. I also learned how to hold a camera stable without using a tripod. In addition I learned how to collaborate with teams more and how to make it so that we can get the project done in time.
If i could change one thing I would reshoot some of the outside shots to make it seem more realistic. I would do this because some of the outside bullying shots seem a bit odd to me, its a bit hard to explain, i just feel they needed to be better.
Next time I plan to still use more complex camera techniques. I would do this because the look and feel of the more complex shots are better to me than the average techniques.
In my next project I plan to still use the new adjustments I learned how to do in Final Cut Pro, as well as using the more complex camera techniques.
Overall I think that this is a pretty good video, it has more complex camera shots and it has more effects than my previous videos.

Plausable Impossibles

In this plausible impossible Dopey is trying to force water out of his head. Dopey blows on his finger and the water comes squirting out of his ears. This is impossible because no matter how hard someone tried they could not get water to come out their ears the same way that Dopey does in this clip. But this seems plausible because it looks like Dopey is forcing the water out by blowing into his finger which we have all done at one point, so we know that when you do that you have a pushing sensation in your ears.

In this next plausible impossible, Dopey has been trying to catch the slippery soap. There are several instances in this scene that could be considered a plausible impossible. Firstly the soap being so slippery that whenever you try and grab it, it would fly out of your hands. Secondly a piece of soap could not bounce off someone and bounce all the way back inside your mouth. Both of these things seem plausible because everyone know how soap is normally slippery, even though what's happening in this scene is taking that to an extreme.

This next plausible impossible occurs right after Dopey swallows the soap from the previous scene. Dopey is hiccupping bubbles from doing this which is were the plausible impossible comes in. We know that soap can make bubbles, which is why this scene could seem plausible. But even if you get the hiccups, swallowing soap will not make bubbles come out of your mouth.

The dwarves have now moved indoors to eat their soup. They start to dig in and east their food like animals. Dopey, in this shot, is slurping his soup out of his spoon, and this would be perfectly normal if the spoon wasn't far away from his face. No matter how much you suck, a normal human could not have enough force to make the soup come out of the spoon and into your mouth.

Finally the last plausible impossible, this is in the same scene as the previous one. This time Doc has grabbed a piece of bread and dipped it in his soup, and is now squeezing the bread to make the soup come out. This could seem plausible because bread does seem to have a sort of absorbent quality to it. But under no circumstances could you squeeze the liquid out with enough force that it would appear as it does in this shot.

Landscape

In the process of making this animation I learned how to make landscapes in photoshop, I learned about the method of making the background move slower than the foreground to make it realistic, and also how to time the layers correctly so that some move slower than others.

The Chase

This project was a chase scene, the reqierments were to get from one place to another and not show the chaser directly until the end.
First me and my partner storyboarded each scene and we came up with the idea of doing a Scooby foo themed video, then we started to film the video. The process of filming took about four days. And when it comes to editing the hardest part was getting music for the video and the Scooby Doo sound effects. In the process of making this video I learned how put in music from I-tunes into videos and also how to brainstorm ideas.
If I could do this again i might reshoot some scenes to make it a bit more smoother which i wasn't able to do because of time. I would use the same timing, like ease in ease out style of filming.
I think that the process of making this video was a learning experience and a fun time all around.

Walking Animation

My character is a man with a horse head, I'm exactly sure why I chose to draw this but it just happened
When i was trying to make my character walk i noticed that in my drawing his feet look like he is on his tip toes. The only problem with the keyframes that I had was the timing of the legs. At first they were moving at the same time, but after some tinkering I managed to make it look like he is actually walking

With the overall animation i learned how to time legs correctly. I wish i would of had time to redraw his feet so he is not on his tip toes and I wish i had time to animate the arms swinging along with his legs.

the 6 shot system

Extreme wide shot is used mainly to establish the setting around the character.

Close ups are used to show the emotion of the character.

Wide shots, again are mainly used to establish setting, while still showing what the character is doing.

Extreme close ups are used to show what the character is doing and show the smaller details that you might not be able to see with a wide or medium shot.

Sequencing in video is important because if you do not use sequencing then it will be confusing to the viewer. It will seem like the shots are not in order.

swagworm_tcollins

In this project we used the puppet pin tool in aftereffects to animate the worm. This project was fairly easy the hardest part was creating a shadow of the worm not the actual animation itself.

Cutting Carots

In this video I learned the 6 basic shots. Some examples of them are, close up, wide shot, extreme wide shot, and over the shoulder, and more. In my next video I will make sure to use the correct shots at the right time, in order to get the most emotion and feeling out of the character.

Bounce Animation

This was the first animation I made this year in the e-communication class at Olathe northwest. I first made a simpler version of the final product using photoshop. But then we sent it to aftereffects and made a more detailed animation. In photoshop we were not able to add effects that make the ball more realistic like ease in/ ease out and squash and stretch. The two keyframe systems in photoshop and aftereffects are very similar but to me they system in aftereffects is more useful and detailed. making the ease in/ ease out was probably the hardest part of this because it just required good timing and precision.
